Praying for Haiti

We are encouraging families to pray for Haiti, at this time of crisis. We are asking families wanting to help, to consider making donations to International Child Care as they have a history of having the money donated, tripled by the Federal Government, because they run the Grace Hospital in Port-au-Prince, and in a country where there is minimal medical care, they do incredible work. They also training midwives to ensure mothers in Haiti can live to raise their children. Calgary families are looking to hold a fund raiser to send money to International Child Care for medical supplies for the Grace Hospital in Port-au-Prince.

The Haitian disaster will no doubt affect the adoption process for orphanages in Port-au-Prince, and area.

At this time God's Littlest Angels building is safe, and the children are fine. The only fear is how they can manage with the many more children that will be brought to them. They are hoping Canadian families will push to have their children come home quickly. There are concerns about food as the market no longer exists, water and diesel will be an issue as diesel is critical for the generators as there is no electricity.

Haiti Children's Home has survived well too. Patti Vold told me Melinda and her husband have gone to Port-au-Prince to see if they can help. The court they work with is open, not damaged and working. The local authorities are supportive of Canadian Adoptions and have many times given authorization to families who do not fit the quoted "married 10 years, 35-45 with no children" guidelines. They only accept Evangelical Christian Families, but given they are far from the city they do not feel their adoption process will be slowed by this crisis.

Families in Haiti are afraid of a Tsunami, in one area the ocean is half a mile out further than it previously was. There is a lot of crime, normally in Haiti, and foreigners and orphanage workers will be at risk until the needs of the people are met. Pray for their safety.

At this time we are still accepting applications for Haiti. The last child came home from Haiti Children's Home one year after proposal. In considering Haiti consider orphanages away from the affected area, as without infrastructure, courts etc and with the separation of children from their parents in the core area, it will be some time before adoptions can occur in Port-au-Prince. Orphanages in outlying areas will be taking in many children orphaned by the Earthquake and are hoping our families will consider Haiti for their International Adoption to make room for the new placements they will receive.

These are my personal thoughts, and opinions, but you have been asking...

Pray for the people of Haiti, for their children and for the food and resources they need to reach them. The future of this beautiful country is in God's hands.
