Eligibility Criteria

Couples

  • Must be married at least 3 years or more
  • One spouse must be 25 years of age or older
  • Couples with children accepted
  • Common-law and same sex couples not accepted.

Singles

  • Single women who are no more than 40 years older than the child to be adopted.
  • Exceptions may be made for special needs children.
  • Single men are not accepted.

Age Restrictions for Adoptive Parents

  • Maximum 43 years for infants
  • No limit for older children

Age of Children Available

  • Children range in age from six months to eighteen years of age.

Estimated Time Frames & Costs

  • Dossier preparation: 5 to 9 months
  • Child referral given: 12 to 16 months
  • Ready to travel: 4 to 9 months
  • Stay in country 7 to 14 days (adoption completed before travel)

Couples should expect to pay over $20,000 for fees, travel, and accommodation to complete an adoption from Ethiopia.

Are you adopting from Ethiopia?  Then the book There Is No Me Without You (author: Melissa Fay Greene) is a must-read for you!!  The book tells about an Ethiopian woman with a big heart who unintentionally falls into orphanage work and international adoption for the children of her country.  It also explains much about the political and social environment of the country your little one is from! You need to know as much as possible about your child's history (and often we don't get much info in those proposals).  This book will help!
